Disabling hibernation in Windows 7/Vista

hibernateAfter my previous post about disabling hibernation in Windows XP and saving disk space today I will show you guys the trick to disable the hibernate in WIndows 7/Vista.

It is a long process to disable hibernate from GUI so we will be using the CMD to disable Hibernate and clear the hiberfil.sys.

  • Go to Command Prompt and type powercfg -h off and press Enter.
  • To re enable the Hibernate function type powercfg -h on.

This method works on almost all latest versions of Microsoft Operating System.

    it doesn’t work for me with command prompt………..it prompted
    that “You do not have permission to enable or disable this option”
    what i did is i have written a batch file included the command u have
    given and right click –> Run as administrator …………
    bingo it worked………..

    Great info yet my computer will not allow me to disable hibernation; says I don’t have permission. I’m the owner and under my profile for the computer (Owner or Guest). So what do I do now? I’m very computer-illiterate.

      U should open with admin rights. To do this click on your start button and then look for Command Prompt. Right Click on it and select “Run as Administrator”
