Procedure to create your own counter strike dedicated server

Ever wanted to host a CS game on your PC?? Here is the procedure to start your own dedicated server for CS. Just follow the steps given below.

  1. Download and install HLDS Update tool from here.
  2. Open cmd and navigate to C:Program FilesValveHLServer. To do this type cd C:Program FilesValveHLServer.
  3. Now type HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game “cstrike” -dir and hit enter. This will install the server files on your computer.
  4. In this process it downloads the required files from the server(~ 300 mb)  so it may take some time depending on your internet connection.
  5. After the files are downloaded you will see a “HLDS installation up to date” message.
  6. Now your server is ready all you have to do is start your server and set the options according to your needs.
  7. To start the server go to C:Program FilesValveHLServer and double click the hlds.exe file.
  8. If you are behind the router you may have to do port forwarding. To know if you are behind the router or not go to cmd and type  ipconfig. Now see what is showing in opposite the IP ADDRESS. If it is something like 192.168.1.xxx then it means you are behind the router and you will have to do port forwarding. For more info on port forwarding go to portforward.com.
