How to fix “BOOTMGR missing error” during Windows bootup

You might have seen this message “BOOTMGR is missing. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart” while entering to your Windows boot menu. This generally happens due to BIOS failure, change in boot disk priority, error in MBR or hard disk failure. If it is not the last case then there are chances that you can recover from it without spending any extra money.

In case of multiple hard disks:

If you have recently changed your BIOS settings then roll back to previous settings. It mainly happens because of change in boot disk priority. If your system is little old then it might be the case of  change in master and slave hard disks.Even if this doesn’t work then follow the steps given below.

In case of single hard disk or the above solution doesn’t work:

  1. Get your Windows 7/ Vista bootable cd and insert it in your cd/dvd drive.
  2. Change the boot priority from the BIOS and set CD-ROM at the first place.
  3. Boot from the CD.
  4. In the next window select your language and then click Next.
  5. After that a new window will appear in which multiple option will be there. Select “Repair your computer”.
  6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, select your OS and click on next.
  7. In the next System Recovery Options dialog box, click Startup Repair. Then it will automatically scan your PC for startup issues and repair it.

You can also use the command prompt option given at the same Window. Select “Command Prompt” and run this command.

bootrec /fixboot

Now restart your PC and remove the disc from the cd drive.
