There is a plugin for Paint.NET using which users can easily open and edit the PSD files. You don’t need to have Adobe Photoshop for this. Follow the steps given below to open PSD files inside Paint.NET.

  1. Download Paint.NET PSD plugin from here.
  2. Extract the dll file to C: Program Files Paint.NET FileTypes
  3. Start Paint.net and done.

  • Masks (loading only: merged into the layer)
  • RLE-compressed files
  • The following color modes can be loaded.
    • 32 Bit-RGBA
    • Gray scale
    • Indexed
    • CMYK
    • Multichannel CMY
    • Duotone (as gray scale)

  • Only RGBA images are saved out, since Paint.NET uses RGBA internally.
