Remote controls & cell phones are an integral part of our lives. We can live without food for a day but definitely not without a remote control & a cellphone. (OK I know that’s a little too much).
Point is did you know your phone camera & remote control are good friends?
One of my ACs stopped accepting commands from it’s remote & as you can imagine it was a pretty frustrating experience. I tried everything from changing the batteries to 2 tight slaps for the remote (typical Indian Jugaad).
Later when I called my AC repair service, the mechanic gave me this idea. He told me we can check if a remote is working or not just by pressing the remote buttons in front of a cellphone camera.
The thing is remote controls have a light emitting diode that are pretty fast & they emmit signals in a fraction of a second. Making it almost difficult for the human eye to see things in action.
Mobile phones on the other hand process images & are slightly slower, hence they are able to show the light processing with a brief delay.
So next time before start slapping your remote or think the battery is dead, use this trick to make sure if your remote is working fine.
If you are an Android or iPhone user, then the name Viber might not be new for you. Viber has been available for Android and iPhone users since long. It lets you send free messages just like WhatsApp but above it, it also allows you to make free calls to other Viber users.
Now with its desktop versions being launched recently, you can make free calls and send messages directly from your Windows or Mac machine. You will be able to connect with any device that is running Viber and is connected to the network.
Viber will sync all your devices, all the messages that you sent or received using Viber, call logs, contacts, everything will be available on all your devices. Which means you can start a conversation from your mobile or tablet and continue it in the comfort of your desktop.
Some of its cool features :
- Voice calls to other devices
- Video chat (for desktop users)
- Text messaging
- Group chat
- No registration, just enter your mobile number to get started
- Sync with all devices
The video chat feature is expected to come to the mobile versions in near future. Currently Viber is available for all major operating systems. You can download your desired version from Viber.com
One of the most popular and interesting feature of Android phones is its capability of turning a mobile phone in to a Wi-Fi hubspot. Before it, this feature was available for Windows 7 pc users only. But now even Nokia mobile users can turn their smart phone into a Wi-Fi hubspot using a free software Joiku.
Joikuspot can be a really useful software for those who use their laptop for work and have to carry a USB modem everywhere. Joikuspot allows users to access the internet easily and cost-efficiently. One can use his mobile phone’s data plan for accessing internet on Desktop PC or on his laptop as well.
Joikuspot light is a free software where as the premium version of the same is available for 9 euros which comes with few more features. But according to me a light version is good enough for normal users.
Joiku is compatible with following Nokia mobiles :
N8, E6, E7, C7, C6, X7, N900, N97, E51, E52, E55, E71, E72, E75, N78, N79, N80, 5800 and many more phones.
You can download this free software from Nokia ovi store or from the Joiku website.
