Google’s ARcore for Android

Augmented Reality always had a upper hand over Virtual Reality . The ability to be present across millions of devices without buying any seperate device.

Apple realised the potential of AR first and it revealed the ARkit on iOS 11  during WWDC 2017.

Google realised it and came up with its very own AR platform called ARcore for Android

This isn’t Google’s first attempt at AR , earlier it had introduced Project Tango which requires specialized hardware like cameras and sensors while ARcore doesn’t.

According to Google, ARcore has 3 features:

1: Motion Tracking:Determining position and orientation of device as it moves.

2: Environmental Understanding: Using camera to detect flat surfaces.

3:Light Estimation: Which allows the virtual objects to cast accurate shadows and fit in with the surroundings.

As Google said it is targeting 100 million Android devices starting today with Google’s flagship Pixel and Samsung S8 , running Nougat 7.0 and above.

Along with ARcore , Google has introduced Blocks and Tiltbrush to easily create 3D content for AR apps.

Also it has released prototype browser allowing web developers to create AR enhanced websites.

Let us know what you think about AR. Peace!

To enable developement mode, go to Settings -> About phone and press seven times on build version. After this you will see a new option under settings – Developer Options . Select that option and enable USB debugging.

Having done this, you can connect your phone to computer and Vysor will allow you to control it. Vysor is still in beta mode so it might not work perfectly but still it’s a cool utility.
